self employment

hey was just wondering if anyone else on here is self employed or who have self employed partners, my husband is going self employed as a bricklayer as he hasnt been able to find stable work, however even after reading every piece of information i can find i still cant work out all of it and just dont want to end up getting in to debt, aslo as he is just starting up we may need help with other benefits however housing benefit wont pay out anything unless we have account info and what not, which obviously we dont coz he hasnt started yet! has anyone else had this problem? and how did you cope during the first few weeks/months and is it better for you now? thanks all of you xxx

  • I haven't had the same thing happen to me but I am also really worried! My partner is doing a plumbing course and it costs him quite alot (its quite a few grand in total) and I am really worried as it just seems to be the wrong time. I would suggest going in to speak to someone, as there may be other benefits you are entitled to. When I tried to get a place I had to say I was single otherwise we wouldn't be priority, maybe you could try that? Get a place for you and your children and then have your parter move in and he can sign the tenancy also? Just some suggestions :)

  • @teresacharl I would go the Citizens advice and ask them about it all. They will be able to tell you what benefits you should be able to get and how best to start out etc
