  • Hey :-) me and my partner been together just over a year now and I am due to give birth in May 2010. We originally put ourselves on the housing register with our local council but considering that neither of us were experiencing overcrowding, or homelessness etc we only got 20 points which put us in the bottom band meaning we would have to wait over 3 years for accomidation. Luckily me and my partner both work and my partner recenlty got a second full time job so our situation took a new direction. We were both sharing between his parents house and my parents house but as you may or may not have discovered yet for little people Babies seems to need a lot of stuff!!! So room was rapidly running out. It's not that anyone did not support us in having our baby we are 18 and 19, but we were running out of room and we felt suffocated by the people around us constantly poking their nose in - half the time it was only suggestions but if it happens to you makesure you stand up for yourself there is nothing worse than being walked over!! As we were earning enough we decided to look into renting a house which costs us £700.00 a month for a 3 bedroom - we were really lucky! It is quite expensive at first to put down a deposit to rent a house for this price you need about £2000 upfront for deposit, fees and first month rent. I am so glad that we have decided to move out just means me and my partner can be with our little girl by ourselves sometimes without other people constantly there! Do you know what your personally doing? Do you live with your parents? xx

  • FrancescaC how old are you, 16? Me and my boyfriend have been living together with my parents for 2 years (around the time our son was born). Last year my sister gave birth to her son and so our house is now very overcrowded. My boyfriend has just started a full time job so we're looking to move too. I have found that private renting is the nicer option, but many landlords aren't prepared to take us on because we are only 16. Plus, if you aren't 18 then by law a landlord can not evict you, meaning that if you trashed a property or they felt inclined to sell they could not ask you to leave. This is in devon, however properties in your area may accept younger tenants. Good luck :) x

  • As far as I am aware, legally an under-18 cannot hold a tenancy, they have to have a guarantor (not sure I spelt that right)... so age is a major factor. You can try council housing but they take forever.. I got a temporary 1 bedroom flat purely because I was in care, and my son is now 3 1/2 and ive only just been allocated a house, at the moment we are still sharing a room. xxx
