What's your baby/child's sleep routine at night?...

I'm interested to know how other people get their children to sleep at night. What do you do before to wind down, what time etc. etc. If you have more than one, how do you juggle them both??

  • Toby's bed time routine is very adaptable. It generally goes PJs and Nappy on, beaker of water to take upstairs with us, hugs and kisses for the rest of the family, teeth brushed, mummy milk and sleep.

Some nights, if he's grubby, he'll have a quick bath, or a wash at the sink. If he's restless, we'll read some stories. If he is ill/unsettled/doesnt want to go upstairs, I keep him down stairs with me and he falls asleep on the sofa. Tonight he fell asleep watching cinderella in bed :)

  • @Earthmummy I'm unsure about the use of a tv to get them asleep??? It seems impossible now as my girls share a room and it would definitely keep Tegan awake, how long is it before Toby falls asleep watching tv? x

  • I have 2 kids, daughter who is nearly 7 and a son who is nearly 10months old. Bedtime routine starts around 6.30. My partner has the baby and plays with him whilst I take my daughter upstairs to give her a bath/shower or wash. She then comes back down to watch her favourite tv programme at 7. Whilst she is watching that we usually bath the baby unless he had it earlier, put him in his pjs etc. 7.30 my daughter goes upstairs and we read a chapter of her book together and make sure everything is ready for the next day, my partner then goes up gives her kisses tucks her in etc. Thats usually over and done with by 7.45. I then come back down stairs and feed the baby then he is usually asleep by 8. Takes my daughter until 8.30ish at latest to nod off. Have tried getting my son to sleep earlier but he just wakes up even earlier in the morning so I am happy with 8pm!

  • @LittleMumma - Oops, I think I phrased that wrong - I dont really 'use' the TV to put Toby to sleep,. It isnt a regular part of his bedtime routine, just that if he is unsettled or isnt feeling sleepy, sometimes I'll put a video on and have a bit of a snuggle/relax together. If he falls asleep while it's on, it's a bonus, rather than the point of it all. We were just watching Cinderella last night as a family and he fell asleep. I didnt mention that I stay with Toby until he falls asleep - I definately dont just stick the telly on and leave him to it, which I realised might have been the way it sounded from my previous post. He still nurses to sleep most nights.
I dont really time how long it takes Toby to fall asleep with the telly on. I'd guess we'd been up there 2 hours last night before he fell asleep. But then it's taken 2 hours or so for him to fall asleep this week, whether the telly has been on or not.
