Playing With Your Child

Blog Image

Did you know that finding time each day to play with your young child, even if it’s just a few minutes, strengthens your relationship with them?

The Family and Parenting Institute recently published a book, which explains why play is important, as well as examples of types of play that you can engage in with your child. It also discusses what is “normal” for different ages.  Download your free copy from here

  • I love playing with my son, hes only two months but he has such a character already! I play with him most of the time hes awake i play with him. He has loads of teddies and toys already and i show him different ones every day and let him feel.different textures of things all the time. I also enjoy dancing and singing with him. Also showing him everything through the window, I do that every day and he loves it

  • my mum's a childminder and my brother is only 3 so i'm playing games with children all day everyday pretty much, when my child is born i will make sure that i make time in my day to play with it and give it some attention as i believe every child needs this to learn how to interact abd become a more confident person as they grow up.

  • we've spent hours every day playing with Jack since he was born, he's such a happy little boy and always giggling and i think the fact we happily crawl around the floor and play with his teddies with him makes him a happier baby, the babies of people who "dont have time to play" with them must get so bored

  • I love getting the chance to play with my kids! It never lasts too long though because they are so close in age they usually end up fighting about sharing and with my daughter hitting terrible 2's she likes to be independant which means mummy isnt allowed to help her with a single thing haha x

  • I love playing with my son! If I was stuck for ideas I would just sit and sing nursery ryhmes and do all the actions :) It's like I'm a big kid myself all over again. He's 2 and a half now and has really started to want to interact with me now. We jump up and down and all over the bed, and we bake cakes and play 'shops' and cowboy and indians :)

  • I fully agree with 6headi - play is an essential part of your child's life, and being there through the fun times as well as the not-so-fun times is key to strengthening the bond with your child. Besides, it's not just fun for baby, it's fun for you too!

    by Heulyn 9 December 2010

  • It's obvious that playing with your child is good and will strengthen your relationship with them, our the parent and not only is it your resposibility to play with them it should be one of you main goals, it not only strengthens your relationship it also teaches your child that your there for them and will always be there. Some children may think of "play time" as showing affection and love towards them and they will show love and affection back. i believe that all parents should make time to interact with there children
