Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails…

Researchers put a range of toys a metre from 90 children - aged nine to 36 months - and recorded what was played with and for how long. They found that "boys went straight for the ball and the black car, and girls went to the teddy bear and the doll."

Is your daughter pink and girly? Does your son wanna be an action hero?  Do you actively try to give bricks to your daughter and soft toys to your son? Or is the gender bias natural and ok?

  • My little boy loves anything with wheels. When we go to his great grans, she has a yellow plastic trolley and a pink pram and he goes straight for the pram. He has this bunny teddy that he carries everywhere and he puts him in the pram and quite happily walks around. At my mums it's a toy till he plays with or the pink ride on! My niece has dollys that she strips then chucks away! xx

  • I agree with all the above comments. They are going to go for the toys that they either have at home or have been brought up with, dolls for girls, cars for boys. My son (1years old) has a lot of toys and I will admit they are toys for boys but he loves messing up my daughters room and getting out her teddies, her doll, her pink hairbrush and playing with them. He really likes the colour pink!! lol

  • also babies are influenced as soon as they're born really - blue for boys, pink for girls .. stuff like that, soo they would have completely change things from birth if they wanted to find this out for real x

  • i agree, these children would of been influenced already, Josh does have all the boys toys but i he does have soft toys and plays with my comb thats if he can get his hands on it haha .. but i can see him being a building blocks boy :) x

  • Doesnt suprise me. My son is very into cars, motorbikes, monster trucks... basically anything with wheels. However, this does include pushing a dolls buggy about (not that we own one, my mates little girl does) and he has asked for a hoover for his birthday! And in the nurserys own words... 'Ryan likes playing dress up (as a fairy) and making necklaces'. xxx

  • These children have probably already been swayed towards their own gender typical toys! Althoug both my girls prefer bricks and trains to dollys and teddys! I never really did see the point in teddys :|
