Mum of two

Blog Image

I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Maddie, I'm 19, and mummy to two beautiful little girls called Ashleigh, who will b 4 in April, and Tegan - 10 months.

I'll be giving you a weekly insight to how it feels to be a young parent of two! Now i know there are other young parents out there with two or more children, but I always love to hear someone else's story so I'd like to share mine and offer any advice I can to other young mums :-)

This week has been rather hectic for me, I've been feeling a bit down since August last year, but I just put it down to lack of energy from having two kids! About 6 weeks ago I started to feel worse and realised I must have post-natal depression. That made me feel even worse still. I felt confused, I had been fine up until Tegan was 5 months old?! But PND can occur up until your child is 1 year old. I sat and had a hard think about how I'd been feeling, and whether anything in my life could have triggered it. That was when it clicked, I'd had Implanon (contraceptive implant) inserted at the end of August. I looked up the side effects and sure enough, depression was listed there, along with a whole lot of other side effects I hadn't even noticed! I booked myself a doctors appointment but due to the amazing amount of snow we've had I haven't been able to get there yet and will update you on this situation as soon as i get it sorted myself.

Doesn't time fly? It seems like only yesterday I brang Tegan home from the hospital and introduced her to her big sister. Ashleigh was so excited and has taken to her really well so far. Although in the last few weeks I've started to notice a bit of jealousy. She doesn't like to share toys or mummy and daddy(!) and since Tegan has started putting anything and everything in her mouth this past week (including other peoples body parts) Ashleigh has started biting back! I'm still yet to work out a solution for this other than the naughty corner and pretending to tell Tegan off so Ashleigh doesn't think Tegan's being favourited, so any suggestions are welcome there!

I'm going to be trying a new bedtime routine with Tegan from Friday onwards as she's started waking in the night, since sleeping through from 5 weeks old. I'll let you know how this goes in my next post.

  • @mumtobe- you must be kidding?! I don't "get" tired with 2 kids, I'm ALWAYS tired!!! But it's easy to put sleep to the bottom of your list when you have children around. It's not like you have a choice to turn them off! I'm probably more tired than the average person mum at the minute though. I have depression and tiredness as a side effect of my implanon, plus an overactive thyroid which makes my body work faster and tires me out quicker than it should....Hopefully once my meds are all sorted out I'll go back to be a "normal" person and not a robot working on auto 24/7!!!

  • Babies are great reminders to take your pill! And the good thing is, there is lots of different ones so if one doesnt suit you then you can try a different type. Ive been through a few - I do not reccommend Mytrogeanon 30 (cant remember how its spelt)... its the cheapest one so they dish it out to everyone but its crap. I havent met a single person yet who hasnt had side-effects from it. xxx

  • I'm a complete retard when it comes to needles, i told the doctor who done it to carry on if/when i passed out because it would be the only way she'd get it in my arm lmao! So i fainted twice that day, once with the anaesthetic and then when the actual implant was about to go in! I'm thinking about the coil, but i've heard so many stories about them going wrong that i'm a bit scared! I think i'd be ok with pills though as i take vitamins every day so i wouldn't forget. xx

  • Im on the Pill... Im a severe needle phobic so I wont have injection or implant, and the patch really doesnt agree with me, and Im scared of the coil going wrong and having to have it removed surgically (see, needle phobia so bad Im completely paranoid!) I think its called Loestrogen or something, because I suffer menestratal migraines xxx

  • Nooooo, I LOVE snow, i just want to get to the doctors. So, doctors monday, snow wednesday :) Works out well for me. Luckily I don't live too far from Ashleigh's pre-school either so she can still go too. She was going stir crazy last week stuck indoors! What contraception are you on now if you don't mind me asking x

    by LittleMumma 16 January 2010

  • Yay!!! Well most contraceptives work on the basis of making your body believe you are pregnant, so pregnancy symptoms can be quite common!!! Apparently we are getting more snow on Wednesday :) Id love that. Im like, the only person who loves snow!!! xxx
