Cake and custard

Blog Image

Parents are so keen for their little ones to be healthy and not grow up to be obese that toddlers are not getting right foods. Kids need high calorie foods to fuel their growing bodies. Meals with too much veg and wholegrain fill them up but don't give them enough calories.  How do you make sure that your toddler eats healthily and also gets enough calories, vitamins and minerals to keep them going? If you're watching what you eat then how do you cope with family mealtimes?

  • my little one loves cake and custard. but he also loves yoghurts and cheese that i give him for snacks. xxxxs

  • Yes there is pressure on parents to make sure that their kids are eating healthily, but so there shud be wen u are hearing stories like the one i saw in magazine about the mum who had twins, getting 250 pounds a week income support, she weighed about 20 stone an was feeding her 8 month old twins chewed up bits of mcdonalds an microwave meals because she 'didnt have time'! absolutley disgusting an a pathetic excuse!! she didnt even work how could she not have time, an even if she didnt cook surely a baby jar would have been a better option!! Harry has a baby jar dinner for his meal or i will cook him something, he has a yogurt or a cow an gate fruit pot, he only has organic snacks or i cut up banana of pear. And a little bit of dairylea on some bread. Dont get me wrong tho coz ther is the occassional chocolate button in there :) x x

  • Totally @mumof2 but its hardly rocket science! And you dont have to be right all the time... yes, my son does like chocolate and occasionally I allow him to drink coke. But he also has some kind of fruit or veg with every meal and give him a meal with meat, chips and veg he will eat the veg, then the meat, and generally leave the chips! Im quite lucky, I hate veg of any kind but Ryan loves it. When he was little I use to buy either the single person portions of steamed veg or a bag of frozen veg and just cook a small portion with his meals to make sure he didnt turn out like me! xxx

  • both my kids love all sorts of foods so I am lucky really, They will eat anything and everything so their diets are varied. I agree with @ryansmummy there is a lot of pressure on parents for their kids to eat healthy but in saying that it is the parents responsibility to make sure they do eat healthy foods, kids can't do it for themselves

  • All I can say is - thank god I dont buy wholegrain :) lol. However, I do think there is too much pressure on parents to make sure their kids eat healthy xxxx

  • Too bad my girls hate both cake and custard!!! They like things like yoghurts and cheese dippers for snacks or fruit but I can't even get them to eat their own birthday cakes!
