Smoking dads increase risk of stillbirth
A new study has shown that dads-to-be who smoke are putting their unborn child at risk.
Researchers found that pregnant women who are exposed to smoke at work or home increase their risk of stillbirth by 23% and of having a baby with defects by 13%… even though they don’t smoke themselves.
See our Info & Advice article on smoking, which also increases your baby’s risk of cot death.
If you smoke 1-9 cigarettes a day during pregnancy you are more than 4 times as likely to have a baby die as a cot death than a woman who didn't smoke at all during pregnancy.
Your doctor or midwife can advise you on how to stop smoking.
