Bedtime bliss
Where to start this week?
The new sleeping regime is going very well. Before, I used to put Ashleigh and Tegan to bed at the same time. That meant one of them didn't get the attention they needed and whoever seemed to need it most that night would get it for the simplicity of peace and quiet!
I've carried on doing the usual "wind down" 5.30pm Bath time- Tegan out first, dried, nappy on, get dressed, into her bouncy chair whilst I get Ashleigh out and do the same (except the nappy!) Then we do something relaxing like read a book or watch cbeebies bedtime hour. At 6.30pm Tegan has her bottle and Ashleigh a beaker of milk or water. 4 out of the 6 nights I've been planning to try her new sleep pattern she's fallen asleep in my arms so I haven't needed to do anything! She's only woken 3 or 4 times this week compared to the recent 3 or 4 times a night, so I've been enjoying wonderful nights of peaceful sleep!!! The other 2 nights I've given Tegan her milk then laid her in her cot in her room completely pitch black and only switch the lamp on for Ashleigh when she has fallen asleep. It took a few hours of controlled crying and going in and out laying her back down before she fell asleep but I was prepared for this so let Ashleigh sleep in mummys bed which she enjoyed very much! I got a little upset having to let her cry but I knew it was just because she was tired and this will eventually benefit us both. I'm hoping once she starts going to sleep on her own I will have more time to read Ashleigh a bedtime story or sing her a nursery rhyme so she gets the help she needs to get a good nights sleep.
PANIC!!! Tuesday afternoon Ashleigh comes home from school and is slightly grumpy but nothing too unusual- it's hard work playing you know! I decided to give her a bath early as she was covered in paint so popped her in at 2pm. When i got her out she started shaking uncontrollably and crying but I just put it down to the temperature change as it was a bit chilly and tried to dry her as fast as i could and get her dressed. She seemed quite hot so i took her temperature. 42oc OMG!!! I ring NHS direct and they ask me so many questions which at first I felt irrelevant to what I was explaining but better safe than sorry. The lady asks me if she has a runny nose, tummy ache, aches and pains, sore throat etc. I told her I don't think so but I wanted to ring her pre-school just in case. They told me she had been complaining a little bit but was playing alright so they thought she was probably coming down with a cold and had written it down for me but forgot to give me the note! I rang the NHS direct again and carried on with the questions. When the lady said "suspected swine flu", my jaw nearly fell to the floor....how could I not notice this?! Even if it was normal flu, I should have picked up on it. She'd been playing fine since she'd been home.
She's been sleeping alot and lost her appetite completely. It hurts to swallow even water and it was hell getting her to take tamiflu. She was offered a jab against swine flu, but I stand with my decision not to give it to her, as every parent does what they feel is right, I've heard of too many bad side effects. She's recovering well with lots of hugs, kisses and love <3
As for me I've been enjoying myself a bit more this week (apart from the obvious wanting to take my baby girls pain away). I'm getting my implant out on monday and somehow my depression seems a little better just knowing it will all be over soon. I love watching my girls play and grow together, the things Ashleigh can teach her baby sister, the instinct to love each other. Tegan showing that she's worried, even though she can't talk, she shows with emotions and lots of hugs. I'm worried we will all catch it but so far we're not showing any signs.
I will keep you all posted and if there are any specific topics you would like me to talk about in my next blog, just let me know. xxxx
